Here’s a funny anecdote I never told you guys about… And before I begin, I’d like to say, I’m aware ALL cat owners think their cats are truly AMAZING and EXTRAORDINARY… But really MY Lola is OUT of this world 🙂 And if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve probably learned a bit about her already, but, give me some time, and I will share with you a lot more anecdotes, pictures and videos that prove I’m not exaggerating when I say this.
So, let me tell you about the first time I noticed Lola, my exotic shorthair Kitten, could see in 2D. I think it was about a year and a half ago, she was only 6 months old. My husband was travelling every quarter to Minneapolis, Minnesota for business. And Lola and I were staying at home all by ourselves. Even though I was pretty busy with a heavy workload myself, and that helped while he was away, my husband and I have worked together, sometimes with different clients, but mostly sharing the same office space, for almost as long as we’ve been married. We are rarely apart, so I was glad I had Lola to keep me company on the days he was away.
The first night my husband was flying, I didn’t get to talk to him. There’s 6000 miles from Buenos Aires to Minneapolis so it was a LOOONG flight for him. You could tell Lola was already missing him… and frankly so was I 🙂 Unlike other breeds, exotic shorthair cats are not very vocal. They only miaow when they want to tell you something, not just because. So when I got to bed and turned off the lights, she noticed something was completely off. She went to the living room area and started searching and meowing in such a way you could tell, she was looking for him, expecting him to come out from behind the sofa or the kitchen. That was already too cute. Call me crazy but I think it’s completely normal to talk to my cat and so I told her he would be back soon.
The following evening, was a bit different. My husband finally pinged me from his Hotel room and suggested we do a video-call on Skype. So I grabbed my iPad and he called me. I was lying in bed talking to him and Lola came running and meowing. Yes! She’d heard his voice via Skype. She hopped to bed so I used one pillow as a stand for my iPad and this is what happened….

Funny thing, after a while touching the screen, she realised, even though she wanted to, she couldn’t actually reach him, so she began looking BEHIND the iPad and then literally trying to dig a hole on the bed next to the tablet, as though he was going to un-buried or something. She was SO confused as to HOW he’d gotten there! And everything was just both shocking and hilarious at the same time! It reminded me of when I was a little girl, and I used to believe the people I watched on TV actually LIVED inside the box ( no flat / smart TVs back then, mind you).
